Since the washing away of the Mokwa-Jebba Bridge by the rains, unprecedented articulated vehicular movement has taken over the ever busy Abuja-Lokoja highway which is the only northern link to Lagos.

Otherwise, the heavy trucks which used to ply the Mokwa-Jebba road to and from Lagos, now ply the Abuja-Lokoja road in the early hours of the morning in a convoy, with some of them breaking down sometimes in the middle of the road.

Since the collapse of the infrastructure, articulated vehicle traffic moved to Abuja-Lokoja causing serial drop in the quality of the highway.

Already, Lokoja residents are calling for the control of trailer traffic in the city since the collapse of the bridge, saying the first step will be for the Federal Government to reconstruct the Mokwa-Jebba Bridge and ease the traffic congestion on the Abuja-Lokoja road.

A dry and fresh fisher seller at Jebba end of the failed highway told Business Hilights on phone that businesses within and around the bridge have collapsed just like the bridge as motorists who always stop by to buy fresh for dry fish no longer use the road due to the state of the bridge.
