A communiqué issued at the end of the 14th monthly meeting of the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, with operators of the power sector, at the National Control Centre, Osogbo has hinted plans by a private electricity generating company, Paras Energy & Natural Resources Development Limited, to sell some megawatts of electricity outside Nigeria.
But Nigerians have started reacting saying the move is another mockery of the collective intelligence of Nigerians if the Minister allows that when power supply in the country has remained uselessly unpredictable.
Since the beginning of the Muhammadu Buhari administration, power supply had been highly epileptic and the minister, Babatunde Fashola had failed to give a clear reason why Nigerians cannot get 24 hours power supply two years into the administration of the government.
According to the Communiqué, “The meeting received the confirmation from the independent system operator that the intention of Paras Energy to sell 60MW internationally will not jeopardise the power purchased by the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trader for use in the domestic market”.
