Statistics from the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) released by the deputy commissioner, Chiharu Yamamura has disclosed that that in 2016, Japan imported 54,276 metric tonnes of Sesame seed valued at ¥6.329m (Japanese Yen) from Nigeria, meaning that Nigeria is the highest exporter of the product to Japan within the period. Current international price of sesame seed is put at $1,600 or $1,650 per metric tonne.

Just as Yamamura said, figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), listed sesame seed among the largest agro exports from Nigeria in the first quarter of 2017.

Additional report noted that Nigeria made N13.03bn from the crop during the period in question.

Communiqué released at the end of a workshop by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) in collaboration with the JETRO showed that efforts are in top gear to ensure the participation of Nigerian exporters to the 2018 Food and Beverage Exhibition billed to take place in March next year.
