NBC rakes in N10.425m from sanctions on Radio Stations in Dec 2017

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has released the list of broadcasting stations that were sanctioned for various contravention of the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Key contraventions include breaches of the rules on vulgar lyrics, unverifiable claims and hate speech amongst others. All the erring stations have been sanctioned in various categories according to the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.

According to the list made available to Business Hilights, a total of 19 stations were fined N2.1m in Abuja Zone, three stations were fined N400,000 in Benin Zone and 20 stations were fined N2.225m in Enugu Zone.

In Ibadan Zone, 12 stations were fined a total of N1.3m, Jos Zone had one station fined N100,000, while Maiduguri Zone had three stations fined N300,000.

Other zones include Kaduna where about 12 stations were slammed N1.35m, Lagos Zone saw three stations slammed with a total of N1.05m.

While there were no breaches recorded on Sokoto Zone within the period under review, in Uyo Zone, about 12 stations were fined a total of N1.6m.

A statement issued by the Head, Public Affairs at NBC, Mrs. Maimuna Jimada said “The Commission wishes to re-iterate to all broadcasters that they have a duty to promote the socio-economic well-being of the Nigerian state and abide strictly by the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code”.
