Barely one week after former Governor of Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke declared to contest for presidency ahead of 2019 elections, another former Governor (Kaduna State) and immediate past Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has joined the race.
Addressing a press briefing in Kaduna on Sunday, he noted that his desire to join the race stemmed from wide consultations with party men and women as well as other major stakeholders, he had decided to seek the party’s nomination to contest the poll.
Makarfi who fought former party chairman, Alhaji Ali Modu Sherif to a standstill vide a Supreme Court verdict averred that after the consultations, the result was quite positive and encouraging and that it was fair enough for him to come out and join other “capable party men and women” to seek the party’s nomination for the 2019 presidential election.
With this development, Makarfi will battle Donald Duke and former Vice President and presidential hopeful of the party, Atiku Abubakar, who recently appointed a former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel as Director-General of his 2019 presidential campaign.
