MMM commitments forced UNN student, Okeke to commit suicide—Colleagues
More details have emerged on why late Mr. Tobechukwu Okeke, a final year student of Agricultural Engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka took his life in his off campus rented house at Odenigwe, a community in Nsukka, Enugu State.
Some of the University students who volunteered exclusive details to Business Hilights on enquiries revealed that apart from being a habitual gambler, he can be said to be the major driver of Mavrodi Mondial Movement investment scheme (MMM) in the university community.
Late last month, Okeke was found on Sunday morning, dangling from a rope in his room at Odenigwe, a community in Nsukka, Enugu State.
Some of the aggrieved students said Okeke left a note behind, apologizing profusely to his family.
The suicide note read unedited thus: “Mother, father, brother, I’m sorry. Ify, may your children never suffer. Uncle Mathias, you gave me all. I am sorry. Death calls. Linguistic department, I am sorry. Okeke Tobechukwu S. 2012/185649.”
Though the whereabouts of the said note became a source of concern after hundreds of students and villages trooped in to catch sa glimpse of hanging Okeke to his room ceiling fan, many of the students who spoke to our correspondent said the content of the note was exactly Okeke’s language as he was growing to be a comedian even before his death.
Some of the students who know him very well said okeke may have been in disturbing debt mess and he was a kind of person that hates being told of his errors even though he lives a comic life.
Our correspondent discovered that his last Facebook posts showed he had been involved deeply in the controversial MMM scheme, as he used his page to advertise the scheme. His last post, in September, read: “MMM is enriching lives of millions of Nigerians every day. If you care to join or you have any questions, please send me a message or comment below.”
The university authorities have also confirmed the incident, but said the family had not officially informed the institution.
Police had taken the matter and investigation is ongoing at Odenigwe, a community in Nsukka, Enugu State, where Tobechukwu Okeke lived and died.
