Random interviews carried out by Business Hilights barely two week after the switch on of Abuja Digital terrestrial television experience by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has revealed adequate awareness may not have been carried out by relevant government agencies before the Digital Switch over (DSO).
Whereas many of the residents say they are not aware, other say they are finding ot hard to activiate their decoders of Set top Boxes so as to start to enjoy the over 30 channels that came with the scheme on December 22, 2016.
However, NBC had issued several public services announcement on how best to get details in accessing critical information on ease of enjoying DSO.
It would recalled that president Muhammadu Buhari represented by the Vice President conducted the ceremonial switch on at the Pinnacle Communications Complex, Mpape, a suburb of the Federal Capital territory (FCT).
Efforts to get reactions from the NBC on why majority of FCT residents were not aware of the scheme or were having challenges in activating their STBs failed as at press time.
Besides, as broadcast media houses in the country are set for the commencement of digitalisation this year, the national president of Radio and Television Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU), Comrade Kabir Garba Tsanni, has called for an increment in the media workers’ salary .
Tsanni made the call yesterday while speaking specifically on the issue of media practitioners in Katsina State Television (KTTV), saying with the advent of digitalization they are expected to work 24 hours daily.
He added that the request is compelling in the face of the current economic recession and inflation of prices of goods and services in the nation.
While calling on the state government to increase the salary of workers to enable them sustain their welfare and deliver optimum services for the development of the state, he maintained that the pay rise will spur high standards and efficiency in service delivery to drive DSO nationwide.
