Maersk Line steps up Cyber security 4 weeks after Petya attack, notifies partners
As part of full scale recovery drive Maersk Line was attacked by Petya virus, disrupting all international activities including Nigeria arm, it has introduced new undisclosed systems security measures.
In a terse notice sent to customers’ weekend, Maersk said “In response to this new type of malware, we have put in place different and further protective measures. Due to confidentiality we cannot share details on these measures at this stage”.
The group however noted that “It has been confirmed by leading cyber crime analysts and agencies that, while the virus spreads rapidly within a company’s network, the virus does not spread between networks or across the internet. Our experience confirms this.”
Whereas Maersk is deepening forensic investigation into the attack and recovery to normal customer service levels, it said in the notice that “Once our service has returned to more normal conditions, we will conduct a full post-mortem. Thereafter, we will engage closely with customers and partners to share lessons from this incident and ensure you can benefit from our learning”.
Business Hilights gathered that several jobs were minimally affected at the Nigerian arm of the company and efforts are still on to return activities to normalcy.
