Lagos mulls converting Olusosun dumpsite to central interstate bus terminus
New plans are on by the Lagos State Government to relocate the age long dumpsite at Olusosun and turn the site into a massive park, where intercity buses would end their journey.
The target of this is to reduce the associated traffic and confusions created by such buses in parts of Lagos.
The State Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare dropped the hint during an interview, saying the new idea will bring sanity in the entire urban traffic management as taxis and shuttle buses will be taking incoming passengers from the terminus to their end destination.
The policy will further free up several parks hitherto occupied by these interstate buses that Adejare added that “Passengers will from there take taxis and intra-city buses to their destinations in town,” stressing that the policy will help clean up the state and bring traffic sanity.
Experts however say the policy may create travelling stress for non-state citizens who must first travel from their residents to the park before boarding buses to their respective states.
They also argued if the entire space has the carrying capacity for buses plying interstate from Lagos.
On where the solid wastes generated around Lagos will be processed when the bus terminus begins to run, the Commissioner said the system will now be decentralized to five zones and wastes generated will used to build garbage-powered power plant to add to the state gird.
