Fresh challenges have emerged as the use of Kaduna Airport enter second week.

Findings by Business Hilights show that users of the airport and mainly air passengers plying the Kaduna International Airport (KIA) are facing fresh hurdles as absence of Automated Teller Machines (ATM), Point of Sale (PoS) and Bureau de Change (BDC) is crippling transactions. The situation is made worse by airlines operating at the airport who are insisting on only cash transactions.

Most hit in the payment outlets scarcity and parallel market operators near absence are arriving international passengers who are forced to pay for taxi services in dollars due to lack of banks operations.

Passengers without cash to buy tickets or prior booking arrangements are left stranded at the airport. The development is coming at a time the Federal Government is working to ensure a seamless transition, as the airport is the only route to connect the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which is the seat of the government. Besides, the cash-only syndrome runs contrary to the cashless policy of the economy.

Another hurdle at the airport is the observed rejection of debit cards by some airlines who argue that there is a challenge of functionality on their PoS machines.
