Ikeja Electric opens up on impacts of meter bypass, power theft, vandalism on Discos
As Ikeja Electric (IE), one of the leading power Distribution Companies (Discos) continues to grow metering of customers within its area of operations, the management has raised alarm on the growing cases of meter bypass, energy theft and facility vandalism.
In an interview with the Head, Corporate Communications, Mr Felix Ofulue, he averred that the company was losing millions of naira to the three problems.
As a safety measure, he called on customers within the network to report any act of energy theft or meter bypass through its customer care hotlines or the nearest IE Office within their locality.
He noted that arrested culprits would be treated according to dictates of the law and face prosecution.
Ofulue revealed that due to rising destruction of infrastructure, the company is now forced to spend hard currency on repairs and replacement of vandalized items.
