Leading indigenous telecoms, Globacom has been named as lead partners with the Lagos State government for the successful hosting of this year’s edition of One Lagos Fiesta.

The platform is an initiative introduced by the state government to celebrate the end of the year and count down to the New Year.

Globacom was formally unveiled as a major sponsor of the initiative at a press conference addressed by Mr. Steve Ayorinde, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy,  together with the  Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development;, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh; Adebimpe Akinsola Special Adviser to the Governor of  Lagos State on Education and Co-Chairman, One Lagos Fiesta,  and Acting Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Co-Chairman, One Lagos Fiesta.

Mr. Ayorinde said One Lagos Fiesta this year is bigger with new interesting additions that will etch the initiative in the minds of Lagosians for a long time to come.

Among such innovative additions is a grassroots competition tagged ‘Lagos Has Got Talent’, which will provide a platform for youths to come together to compete for glory using their God-given talent and skills in singing, dancing, rapping and so many more.

Like the last edition, One Lagos Fiesta 2016 will also take place simultaneously in five locations, namely, Agege, Badagry, Ikorodu, Epe and Lagos Island (Bar Beach). But unlike last year, when it happened for five days, this year, the fiesta will last eight days.

Mr. Ayorinde said the general idea is to constructively engage the youths and create additional platforms for business activities for Lagosians even in the midst of the social interactions.

Ayorinde was full of thanks for Globacom and the other corporate bodies which have agreed to lend their financial muscle to ensure the success of the programme.

In her remarks at the press conference, the Co-chairman of the organising committee, Honourable Akinsola said the event will attract the biggest stars in the country’s music firmament from various genres, including hip-hop, reggae, juju, apala, afro beat and highlife, among others.

Globacom said its participation in the project this year again signposts its unflinching belief in the overwhelming potential of Lagos as a tourism destination capable of drawing attention from all parts of the world.

The company said Lagos, with the right support, can become the number one tourism destination in Africa in a few years.

The company promised to deploy all necessary materials to add value to this year’s edition of One Lagos Fiesta.
