As part of new drive to maintain steady power supply in Ghana, a private investor has taken delivery of 450MW gas-to-power vessel which arrived Ghana’s territorial waters weekend.
The supplies from the vessel will be fed into the national grid through a 10-year supply agreement between the investors; Karpowership Ghana Company Limited and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)
According to the executive director of the African Centre for Energy policy (ACEP), Benjamin Boakye, “The 250MW was a short term measure to ensure that while we were awaiting the 450MW, we still had something to rely on”.
“So they had to replace that with the contractual value that we signed up to and that is what they have actually done.”
“I think that is something that we all understand and the sector also knows that electricity tariffs are expensive in Ghana and that affects our competitiveness as a country.
“Today some other factors may go in for us; we are more stable and therefore investors have confidence in investing in a stable economy,” Boakye noted.
