At a time Nigerian Cocoa producers are battling for survival due to government’s near negligence of the sub sector, Ghana and Ivory Coast are set to jointly decide on the volume and timing of cocoa exports by August for the 2019/20 season.
According to the head of Ghana’s Cocobod, Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the move is to increase producer profits.
Business Hilights recalls that few years ago, Nigeria was overrun by both nations in global Cocoa production ranking and now; they are collaborating to harmonize the forward sales of cocoa export contracts.
Already, Ghana will uproot 400,000 hectares of cocoa infected by swollen shoot disease, Cocobod and its Ivorian counterpart, Coffee and Cocoa Council, said in a statement.
