As part of smart face saving moves, President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday suspended Mr David Babachir Lawal, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), and ordered an investigation into the allegations of abuse of due process made against him in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).

In a terse statement issued by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, the President equally ordered a full scale investigation into the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, over which the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has made a claim.

Accordingly, NIA boss, Mr. Ayo Oke has been placed on suspension pending the outcome of findings.

Adesina averred that due to the openings, the most senior Permanent Secretary in the SGF’s office, and the most senior officer in the NIA, are to act, respectively, during the period of investigation.

Whereas many Nigerians see Oke’s suspension as timely, others felt that the SFG had been long overdue in office ever since he embarrassed the lawmakers who had invited him for explanations.
