Though rainy season is when more power outputs are produced from dams, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has warned Discos and handlers of transmission arm of the power sector to rise to the challenges associated with the period.

Details sourced from the minutes of the 27th monthly meeting for stakeholders in the industry show that the Minister made a passionate appeal to both transmission and distribution companies to come up with strategic communication plan that will ease the problems of the season on power supplies.

The minister “advised operators to prepare for the raining season, which would provide more water supplies to the hydro stations and pose major challenges to transmission and distribution networks.”

Accordingly, he called for prompt issuance of relevant notices when there were known damages that would interfere with power supply and send maintenance team out to repair and replace damaged equipment or clear fallen trees.

Fashola also advised the operators to also send information to the public on multiple platforms of conventional and social media to report faults that they might not be aware of to limit colossal damages resulting from heavy downpours.
