Ethiopian airline lands
Just as Business Hilights reported few days ago that the airport may be delivered ahead of schedule, it has came to pass as the runway okayed yesterday by NCAA this afternoon received the first aircraft landing. Ethiopian Airline’s Airbus 350 plane was the first aircraft to land at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja after the airport opened for use 24 hours ahead of schedule. It touched the Runway at about 12.10PM, today Tuesday, April 18, 2017, a day ahead of official day of delivery. Before the landing of Ethipoian Airline, today, local airlines including Air Peace and Medview and lately Dana Air had on the race to touch the new runway first before others. Repair works were carried out on the runway for six weeks as both domestic and international flights were diverted to Kaduna, 170 kilometres away. Business Hilights recalls that the airport was closed completely for runway repairs on March 8 and was scheduled to open for regular traffic on April 19 but opened a day ahead.
