‘Discos foot-dragging in sealing partnership with MAPs for meter access’

A secret has been revealed by a top official of out of the 85 Meter Asset Providers (MAPs) on the grand plan by many of the electricity distribution companies (Discos) to frustrate the needed partnership with MAPs in the efficient delivery of prepaid meters to consumers.
The official who pleaded anonymity decried the foot-dragging attitude of Discos in completing the needed partnership discussions with many of the MAPs that have strengthened their production structures for prepaid meters mass production.
The official decried lack of seriousness on the side of Discos, saying almost every MAP Company is finding it hard to work out meaningful understanding that will quicken the rollout of meters to millions of households and companies.
However, in another interview the Chief Executive Officer of Momas Electricity Meters Manufacturing Company (MEMCOL), Mr. Kola Balogun has assured the readiness of MAPs to comply with the 30 per cent local content directive given by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
He said meter asset providers have agreed to meet 30 per cent local content requirement in order to ensure a seamless operation when the new metering regulation comes into effect in 2019. Balogun explained that the 30 per cent local content requirement also includes the inputs into a meter which every MAP is complying with ahead of next’s rollout.
