More details have been released by the Commonwealth Telecoms Organisation (CTO) on the Commonwealth Cybersecurity Forum 2017, taking place from 22 – 24 March this year, at the BT Centre, London.

The conference will among other things examine how to make the Internet safer for users.

It would be recalled that Cyberspace plays an ever increasing role in connecting communities, alongside delivering socio-economic development, facilitating trade and managing infrastructures. However, the expansion of the Internet has created increased opportunities for online exploitation and criminal activities.

Speakers including Natasha Jackson, Head of Content Policy, GSMA, Nievia Ramsundar, Corporate Secretary, Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad & Tobago, Fred Langford, Deputy Chief Executive, Internet Watch Foundation and Brian Webb, Chief Security Officer, BT, will discuss protecting vulnerable people online. Other participants, including Hon Tarana Halim, Minister of State for Posts & Telecommunications, Bangladesh, will also discuss how to ensure a safe online environment for users, protecting privacy and intellectual property and how to prevent cyberspace from being used to perpetuate crime and terrorism.

Looking beyond protection of users in cyberspace, other speakers you will hear from include:

Dr Chaesub Lee, Director, Standardisation Bureau, International Telecommunication Union on securing the infrastructural underpinning of cybersecurity

Heli Tiirmaa-Klaar, Head of Cyber Policy Coordination, Conflict Prevention & Security Policy, European External Action Service on the European Union’s external actions in cybersecurity

Colin Nichols QC, Committee Member, Intergovernmental Expert Group, United Nations Office on Drugs & Crime on Cross-border cooperation in cybersecurity.
