Following sustained agitations by subscribers over the years on switch to pay-as-you-go billing system, MultiChoice, owners of DSTV/GOtv Pay TV services may have yielded but is working out a rather hard to understand model it called Pay-Per-View (PPV) Subscription Model in Nigeria
According to the group, the emerging billing model would allow subscribers watch some important programmes not available on their bouquet, but at an extra cost to the willing consumers.
A report by Telecompaper, quoted the Head of Public Relations of Multichoice, Ms. Caroline Oghuma as explaining, however, that the concept is different from pay-as-you-go, which has been misconstrued to mean pay-per-view.
She averred that “Pay TV operation is not like the telecom versions where you pay for the amount of airtime you want to use. Pay-as-you-go, as believed by some customers, is not obtainable in the pay TV business”.
She further noted that the PPV model is a global practice which allows interested parties pay and view special programmes or events.
Continuing, she added that “Paying for PPV in Europe and the UK is equivalent to paying for two months subscription in Nigeria. We know Africans love boxing that is why we are bringing the best thing that is happening in the world to Africa.”
Business Hilights gathered that several subscribers of Multichoice Nigeria’s pay-TV service are having issues with the company on its fixed subscription regime which do not consider whether subscriptions are used or not used, but only recognizes month end.
