Barely few days after the embattled loser of governorship primary elections in ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr. Uche Nwosu, left the party and made a brief stopover at DPP and finally pitched his tent with Action Alliance (AA), the National Chairman of the party, Dr Tunde Anifowose-Kelani has rejected him as the gubernatorial candidate of the party in Imo State.
In a statement, Dr Anifowose-Kelani said the Imo State Governor’s son-in-law, Nwosu, has not met and cannot meet the constitutional requirements in AA to become a flagbearer in just few days of joining after all.
Speaking in Abuja, he maintained that Nwosu is yet to become a registered member of the party, and therefore, cannot be recognized as the party’s standard-bearer Imo State in the forthcoming general elections.
The statement averred that “Uche Nwosu is not yet a member of our party and cannot come through the back door to be a gubernatorial candidate of the party in Imo state.”
According to party chairman, AA has rules and regulations guiding its operation, adding that in order to become a registered member there are due process such person must follow.
However, whereas the national chairman of the party is distancing the party from Mr Nwosu, about 18 lawmakers out of the 27 member Imo State House of Assembly, all APC Local Government chairman and Councilors have decamped to AA, leaving only Governor Rochas Okorocha as the political island of APC in Imo State now.
Though all the media war brewing between Governor Okorocha, in other climes are enough for him to leave APC, observers say he may run into a deep trap of the ruling party if he ventures leaving APC at this time.
