Residents of different communities in Imo State have queried the state government on why there had been stoppage of road construction since the emergence of dry season.
Globally, it is believed that the best season to carry out massive road repairs and construction works has always been dry season.
Mr. Fidel Ahanonu, an indigene had asked the State Commissioner for Information, Engineer Obinna Nsirim during a a Radio progrmamme called Matters Arising, monitored in an Owerri based Radio Station, why the state government has stopped road construction during this dry season. He responded by saying that “About one billion naira had been given to Ikeduru, Ohagi/Egbema, Ngor Okpala for the construction of three km roads in each community.
He also revealed that government had released over N500m to each local government for similar project.
But findings across Imo State show that no road construction is ongoing in any part of the state upon all the funds released so far by the government.
However, what is confusing many observers remains the silence of the state government in not worrying the handling contractors if it had really paid contractors as claimed.
