Indigenous cement giant, BUA Cement has announced resumption of test production at its emerging six million metric tons (6mmt) Obu Cement plant, Okpella in Edo State.
The company said the full production regime of the plant will effectively raise its total production capacity to 8million metric tons per annum (MTPA).
In a statement made available to Business Hilights, the group averred that logistics are being put in place for a date to commission the new plant.
It would be recalled that few months ago, a disagreement on ownership of mining sites ensued leading to a high level media war between the group and another cement giant operating in Kogi State.
Explaining more at a business forum, Founder & Executive Chairman of BUA Group – owners of BUA Cement, Abdul Samad Rabiu, said the completion of BUA’s Obu Cement second line puts BUA Cement in prime position to be Nigeria’s second largest cement producers by volume in a short while.
According to him, “Through a strategic combination of BUA Cement’s newer, more energy efficient plants and the proximity of our factory locations to key regional markets across Nigeria, BUA Cement has in no time become the industry leader in capacity utilisation as well as maintaining a strong presence and brand leadership position in regional markets where it operates”.
It would recalled that the rising production capacities of all cement manufacturers in Nigeria led the country to effectively achieve cement backward integration during the last administration under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
However, Nigerians and the nation’s housing industry are yet to observe any reasonable drop in the price of the commodity even as housing deficit continues to rise.
