Ayade deepens ‘Buy Nigeria campaign’, orders officials to wear made-in-Calabar clothes
As part of drive to grow local content and job creation, the Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade, on Thursday ordered all civil servants and political appointees to immediately start to patronise clothing made in Calabar Garment Factory.
Already, pioneer products of the new expansive state-owned firm, have entered the market. Products include blazers, jeans, gown and shirts.
Ayade who expressed excitement when he was presented with samples of finished products from the factory alongside uniforms of some paramilitary outfits, said he was determined to boost its patronage and make the factory economically viable.
According to him, “from June 2017, he will not be wearing clothes not made from the factory because the garment factory today is a reality and it’s now producing in commercial quantities for export too.”
“Henceforth, starting from today, all executive members, all appointees must be in clothes made from Calabar Garment Factory and this is official. By the close of next month, anything I put on my body will be made from Cross River Garment Factory. That is my sincere commitment to the state and for the 3,000 young people working in the factory.” he said.
A senior aide to the Governor who spoke with Business Hilights Correspondent in Calabar said “The factory is a living testimony of Governor Ayade’s electoral promises and it has come to stay. We are expecting that it will start exports to other states of the federation before the end of fourth quarter”.
