A top government official of Bayelsa State on Monday confided on Business Hilights South-South Bureau chief that frantic efforts are on ground to inaugurate the completed Bayelsa International Cargo and Passenger Airport (BICPA), Yenagoa on August 27.
The official, who preferred not to be named, averred that “the target of that date is to make sure the delivery matched with the governor’s pledge to deliver it on time”.
Though efforts to get official confirmation from the State Commissioner for Works and Secretary to the State Government failed as press time, other senior government officials in the know of the plan expressed confidence that there are strong signals in the information but said only a member of the State Executive Council can give a better confirmation.
It would be recalled that earlier this month, Pupils of the Bayelsa State Government Model Schools were on excursion at the multi-billion international airport and commended the Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson for changing the narratives of the State, through his developmental strides including the BICPA.
The students, who were left in awe by the nearly completed state-of-the-art facilities at the international cargo airport, commended the huge investments in infrastructure, education and other sectors of the economy.
The State Commissioner of Education, Jonathan Obuebite, who accompanied the over 1,200 students on excursion to the airport, said the facility will be commissioned by month end.
The amazed scholars described the airport project as a landmark achievement of the restoration government, adding that when finally completed it will ease the transportation system, boost the Internally Generated Revenue and create employment opportunities for the teeming youths in the state.
At inauguration, BICPA will be the second Cargo Airport built wholly by a state government after the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport (SMICA), in Owerri, the State capital.
