More facts have emerged on why the management of the Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board recently visited the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

The aim was to replicate the success story of LAWMA in the northern state of Kano.

It would be recalled that the management of REMASAB penultimate week, paid a two-day working visit to LAWMA to have first-hand knowledge of its waste management strategy.

Managing Director, REMASAB, Mr. Muhammed Adamu, said in a statement that the decision to visit LAWMA was informed by the success stories it had recorded in the sector over the years.

According to him, REMASAB was working towards replicating in Kano some of the systems LAWMA had successfully adopted.

Earlier in his remarks during the visit, host and the Executive Chairman, LAWMA, Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejokun, said effective waste management in a city was important.

While explaining that the business of waste management was capital intensive, which made it necessary for the government to engage private investors, the General Manager, LAWMA, Mr. Segun Adeniji, said the daily increase in Lagos population had a direct effect on the volume of waste being generated and that the state was working to reform the sector.

REMASAB team toured strategic locations of LAWMA installations including landfill sites, engineering sections and Transfer Loading Stations.
