5 institutions vie for honours at Collegiate PR Challenge

Next generation practitioners of public relations will flag-off the Lagos Public Relations Week as they spar at the Collegiate PR Challenge on the theme; Exemplary Leadership: Public Relations Art for Nation-State Building, at the Nigerian Institute of Management on Wednesday May 24, 2017.

The Collegiate PR Challenge, part of activities marking the Lagos Public Relations Week by the Lagos State Chapter; the flagship of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations; the umbrella body of professional public relations practitioners chartered to regulate, develop and direct the practice,will feature students of Mass Communications from the Lagos State Polytechnic, Lagos State University, Pan Atlantic University, University of Lagos and Yaba College of Technology.

Group Head, Corporate Affairs, Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, Development Communications Expert and Proprietor, Professional Exams Clinic, Dr. Peter Ogudoro, Regional Director/Managing Director Nigeria, AfricaPractice R&B, Tim Newbold, Principal Consultant, PR Distinction and Presenter, Channels Sunrise, Ms Alero Edu and Vice President, Corporate Affairs and CSR, AIRTEL Nigeria, Emeka Oparah are eminent panel of judges of the challenge.

The Collegiate PR Challenge is the first of its kind in sub Saharan Africa. The contestants will be judged on several criteria including clarity of thought, oratory skills and demonstrated understanding of the topic amongst others, which are sine qua none to public relations practice.

Speaking on the initiative, the Chairman, Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Olusegun McMedal, said, “The overarching objective of the Collegiate PR Challenge is to motivate students to proffer solutions to the nation’s leadership malaise, develop their oratory skills and professional grooming. The initiative will deepen their understanding and appreciation for public relations practice”.
