As the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode continues to commission and hand over delivered roads to communities, the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Ganiyu Johnson has said that the 114 roads in the state will create wealth for residents and raise interconnectivity within the arterial road networks of the state.

In an interview , he called on residents to use and protect the infrastructure and avoid acts capable of damaging the roads or other facilities.

The roads were delivered by the Lagos State Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure in partnership with all the 57 Local Governments and LCDAs. Each council got two roads delivered with walkways, streetlights and demarcations.

Explaining more during the inauguration of one of the roads, the Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, represented by the Deputy, Mrs. Idiat Adebule said “The ongoing roads projects have added 56.1 Km and 112 Km of walkways and covered drains to the state’s total road network”.

Continuing, the Governor noted that “At a time the national economy is facing challenges, our administration injected N19 billion to the economy of our state, stimulated employment and engaged the business sector”.

Ambode however cautioned Lagosians that “As we hand over these roads to the communities, I urge residents to guard jealously the infrastructure provided by the government”.

Records show that the contracts for the 114 roads were awarded in January at the initial cost of N17.5 billion before some upward review owing to the unstable dynamism in money market and inflation since this year.

Mrs. Kemi Nelson who represented the Governor during the handing over of completed roads in Isolo Local Government Area told our correspondent councils were allowed to choose two key roads in their localities in dire need of facelift before the contracts were awarded and more roads will soon be given out to contractors in each of the 57 councils according to availability of funds in line with Governor Ambode administration.
